Learn Alongs are opportunities for Fibreshed members to share info, skills, and enthusiasm, on the topic of the day. Since the pandemic restrictions have come into effect, gatherings have been online via Zoom. Normally they occur in a variety of settings such as farms, the library, public market or Sechelt Arts Centre. With online gatherings, there is no charge. Previously during our in-person events, there is a $10 fee. Learn Alongs are intended for all Fibreshed members. Non-members are welcome to join our Learn Alongs once.
There is no required skill level.
This Learn Along will focus on some of the many activities we are involved in this time of year.
For instance:
  • Fibreshed shepherdesses and shepherds are tending to birthing of lambs and kid goats, organizing animal care, feeding, shearing, pasturing, setting up carbon farming practices, cultivating land and then planning to get their wool products processed and to the knitters, spinners. weavers and felters.
  • Fibreshed dyers are beginning to forage and gather plants for dyeing, planning, sourcing and prepping materials.
  • Fibreshed dye gardeners are gathering seeds, making soil, creating planting pots, and setting up indigo planting stations in their homes.
Raquel Kolf shepherdess, Daphne Woo natural dyer, Merrily Corder and Lynda Daniels, seed pot makers will share some of their experiences. All other participants are invited to share as well.
A supply list for making seed pots will be sent closer to the date.
Stay tuned for that!
