The Sunshine Coast Fibreshed held its ninth LearnAlong February 23 in the Ravensthread studio of Catherine Nichols in Gibsons, BC. With snow falling, 14 Fibreshed members ventured forth to explore needle felting. Supplies were available from Kim Fenton’s Unwind shop, so everyone had foam, fleece, needles, and creativity.
Master felter Ursula Bentz had some of her pieces on display while she introduced the art of needle felting.
She has created garden gnomes, dryer balls, flowers on rocks, and stick people.
Merrily is in her creative zone . . .starting with a ball of fleece . . . and then?
Everyone got into the zone, working at creating whatever called to them.
Peg is happy with her flat felted piece that may end up as a pillow cover.
Trish is creating a hedgehog to honour her daughter’s pet—the grandhog! Beads will finish it for brilliant eyes.
At the end of two hours there were bunnies, slipper embellishments, tree ornaments.
A very rewarding day for all.
A special thanks to Catherine for hosting and sharing her studio space, to Ursula for her expertise, to everyone for sharing their felting knowledge and coming out to experience a Fibreshed event. Welcome to new members.
