LearnAlong—Presentation by Anna Hunter
May 1 @ 10:00 am - 12:00 pm
Anna Hunter is a first-generation sheep farmer and wool mill owner in eastern Manitoba, Treaty One Territory. Anna, her husband, Luke, and their two sons moved to Manitoba from Vancouver BC in 2015. They started a small sheep farm, raising Shetland sheep for their beautiful wool, then in 2018, they established a small-scale wool processing mill—the only one of its kind in Manitoba. They process wool and fibre for themselves and other farmers. Anna is passionate about building community and connecting rural fibre farmers with urban consumers, fibre artists, and crafters. She believes that regenerative agriculture and climate-beneficial food and clothing are integral to moving forward as farmers, fibre artists, and Manitobans. To learn more about Anna and her farm/wool mill, check out longwayhomestead.com.
Anna will cover topics such as: her journey in wool, the Pembina Fibreshed, Fibreshed Field School, how to start a woolen fibre mill, the Fibreshed One Year One Outfit Project utilizing local Manitoba fibre, and how regenerative agriculture practices contribute to climate beneficial clothing and food.
We are inviting members of the Sunshine Coast Fibreshed, the Farmer’s Institute, and the Spinners and Weavers Guild to join.
Feel free to pass this information on to individuals you think would be interested in joining this LearnAlong.
